Sinclair calculator
The Sinclair total compares weightlifting totals across bodyweights. It estimates what a lifter would total in the heaviest class at the same level of ability.
Sinclair total = total × 10^(A × X²), where X = log10(bodyweight ÷ b). A and b are set for each Olympic cycle.
Example: a woman weighing 75.4 kg who totals 270 kg has a coefficient of 1.1931. Her Sinclair total is 322.1 kg.

Sinclair and DOTS coefficient tables
Coefficients by bodyweight for men and women, with both formulas and their sources.
The formula
Sinclair total = total × 10^(A × X²), with X = log10(bodyweight ÷ b)
- These coefficients cover 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2028. They were fitted to the world record totals as of 31 December 2024.
- A lifter heavier than b gets a coefficient of 1, so the total stays as it is.
- The IWF changed its bodyweight categories on 1 August 2026. We have not found a newer set of coefficients, so this page uses the 2025 to 2028 set.

Common questions
- Which Sinclair coefficients does this calculator use?
- The 2025 to 2028 set: A = 0.700767819 and b = 201.159 kg for men, A = 0.674107991 and b = 163.918 kg for women. Calculators still on the 2021 to 2024 set give slightly different numbers.
- Why is my Sinclair total higher than my real total?
- The coefficient is above 1 for anyone lighter than b. It scales the total up to what a lifter of the same level would total in the heaviest class.
- Is the Sinclair total the same as DOTS?
- No. Sinclair scores weightlifting totals, the snatch plus the clean and jerk. DOTS scores powerlifting totals, the squat, bench press and deadlift, with a different formula.
